Alternative Water Supply Technician (AWS/HGV Driver)

About the role

South West Water is looking for an Alternative Water Supply Technician to join its Plymouth team. The role combines HGV driving with the operation and maintenance of equipment used to supply water when normal services are disrupted.

Key responsibilities

• Supply alternative water using pump tankers, Arlington bowser and overland hoses.
• Carry out routine vehicle checks and ensure HGV readiness.
• Maintain and repair supply‑interruption mitigation equipment, including line‑stopping tools, bypass tools, Hydrant Wizard, ferrule replacement and EZValve installations.
• Design and map hose routes, tanker hook‑ups and new valve locations for AWS and network‑technology teams.
• Follow QMS procedures and uphold environmental and safety standards.
• Support water‑distribution activities such as trunk‑main walking, mains flushing and leak detection.

Required profile

• Full‑time permanent position with a shift‑rotation pattern from day one.
• Valid HGV licence appropriate for the vehicle class used.
• Proven experience driving HGVs and operating water‑supply equipment.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Commitment to health, safety and environmental compliance.
