Applications & Design Engineer – Engineering Solutions

About the role

Elevation Recruitment Group is seeking an experienced Applications & Design Engineer to join a growing engineering business in Leeds. You will develop technically complex, customer‑specific engineered solutions for defence, critical infrastructure and heavy industry, acting as the technical lead from concept through to proposal.

Key responsibilities

• Develop bespoke engineered solutions in response to customer requirements, translating specifications into functional designs, system architectures and technical proposals.
• Produce and review engineering documentation including general arrangement drawings, system schematics, bills of materials and engineering calculations.
• Lead the technical content of quotations, tenders and proposals, preparing cost estimates, risk assessments and supporting customer meetings.
• Act as the primary technical contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle, collaborating with sales, manufacturing, supply chain and service teams.
• Support projects from concept through commissioning, providing expertise for system upgrades, retrofits and capital projects.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an Applications & Design Engineer delivering complex engineering solutions.
• Strong technical problem‑solving ability and commercial awareness.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Hydraulic system design and selection.
• Mechanical system design and configuration.
• System sizing, selection and configuration.
• Engineering calculations, validation and design verification.
• Creation of general arrangement drawings, system schematics and bills of materials.
• Prototype development, testing and product optimisation.
