Apprentice Clinical Support Worker – Theatres (Level 3)

About the role

This apprenticeship offers a Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker (Theatres pathway) qualification while working in the Operating Theatre department of Furness General Hospital. You will support qualified staff in delivering peri‑operative care and gain hands‑on experience across a range of clinical tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Assist a Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner with patient care before, during and after surgery.
• Provide basic patient care and accurately document all interventions in patient records.
• Transport patients safely within the theatre department and to other clinical areas.
• Support the preparation and cleaning of operating theatres and associated clinical spaces.
• Participate in the 24‑hour on‑call service, including shift work, weekends and night duties.

Required profile

• Right to work in England and residency in the UK or EEA for the previous three years (or meet exemption criteria).
• Enthusiastic, reliable and able to work under direction in a fast‑paced environment.
• Willingness to attend college 20% of the working week for apprenticeship study.
