Apprentice Forest Craftsperson

About the role

You will work alongside experienced forest craftspeople and beat teams, gaining hands‑on experience through a structured training programme. The role supports practical operations that create, maintain and harvest forests for the UK timber industry while you work towards a Level 3 Forest Craftsperson Apprenticeship.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out forest estate management tasks such as vegetation control, timber mensuration, fencing, planting, habitat enhancement and protection of historic features.
• Assist with timber harvesting activities and related safety procedures.
• Support recreation duties, including facility maintenance, tree safety inspections and remedial works.
• Work effectively within a small team, responding quickly to unexpected tasks and supervisor requests.
• Perform manual work in all weather conditions across the forest environment.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience working outdoors with an interest in countryside management, forestry or conservation.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate within a team.
• Willingness to acquire new practical skills through training and learning from colleagues.
• Commitment to achieving the Level 3 Forest Craftsperson qualification.

Required skills

• Competent IT user with experience in the Microsoft Office suite.
