Approved Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP)

About the role

The Herefordshire Council AMHP service is seeking a qualified Approved Mental Health Practitioner to join a supportive, values‑driven team. This full‑time, temporary position works 9‑5 with the option to take part in a well‑paid out‑of‑hours rota.

Key responsibilities

• Assess referrals and decide on appropriate actions under the Mental Health Act.
• Prepare detailed AMHP reports and documentation.
• Safeguard vulnerable individuals by making legally sound decisions.
• Collaborate with mental health teams, doctors, and external agencies.
• Participate in regular supervision, team meetings and peer‑support activities.

Required profile

• Qualified Approved Mental Health Practitioner with at least one year of AMHP practice.
• Experience assessing a range of client groups.
• Strong commitment to protecting human rights.
• Good knowledge of the Mental Health Act and related legislation.
