Area Countryside Officer

About the role

The Northumberland County Council’s Countryside and Green Spaces Team is seeking an Area Countryside Officer to manage public rights of way and public access issues across the northern part of the county. This is a full‑time, permanent position offering flexible working arrangements, including the possibility to work from home.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, investigate and resolve issues related to public rights of way and access land.
• Maintain up‑to‑date records and maps of rights of way in the area.
• Provide advice and support to the public, landowners and other stakeholders on access matters.
• Conduct field inspections and site visits as required, working outdoors in all weather conditions.

Required profile

• Demonstrable experience in managing public rights of way and access land.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with a wide range of people.
• Ability to work independently and outdoors in varying weather.
• Access to a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement available).

Required skills

• Excellent map reading ability.
