Art Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a creative and enthusiastic Art Teaching Assistant to join an Alternative Provision school in Bromley-by-Bow. The role supports pupils aged 11‑18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them build confidence and re‑engage with education through art.

Key responsibilities

• Support Art lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Assist students with practical art projects using a range of materials and techniques.
• Encourage creativity, confidence and self‑expression.
• Provide emotional and behavioural guidance to pupils during lessons.
• Prepare resources and maintain a safe, organised classroom environment.
• Build positive relationships that promote engagement and attendance.
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation throughout the school day.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting young people with SEMH.
• Experience in an Alternative Provision, PRU, SEN school or mainstream setting supporting additional needs.
• Genuine interest in art, creativity or design.
• Patient, resilient and adaptable.
• Strong communication and behaviour management skills.
• Passionate about helping vulnerable young people achieve their potential.
