About the role
We are looking for an ASD Specialist Teaching Assistant to join a large SEN school in Newham. You will support pupils with a range of special educational needs, including autism, severe learning difficulties and speech & language challenges, on a day‑to‑day basis.
Key responsibilities
- Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for students with ASD, SLD, PMLD and related needs.
- Liaise with class teachers and the SENDCO to monitor and report on pupil progress.
- Deliver specialist interventions and adapt learning activities to create a safe, stimulating environment.
- Collaborate with school therapists and contribute to individualized education plans.
Required profile
- Experience supporting children (16+) with SEN, particularly autism or severe learning difficulties.
- Resilient, patient, calm‑natured, empathetic and adaptable.
- Committed to delivering high standards of care and education.
Required skills
- Knowledge of autism spectrum disorder support strategies.
- Understanding of speech, language and communication needs.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
