ASD Teaching Assistant – Secondary School

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support pupils on the autism spectrum (ASD) across Years 7‑11 in a thriving secondary school in Harrow. You will work closely with the SENDCO and a multi‑skilled team to deliver personalised learning experiences.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group support for ASD students in Key Stages 3 and 4.
• Assist with lesson preparation, classroom management and the implementation of individual education plans.
• Use communication tools such as PECS and Makaton to facilitate student engagement.
• Collaborate with teachers, support staff and external agencies to monitor progress.
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.

Required profile

• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant in a primary or secondary setting.
• Demonstrated experience supporting students on the ASD spectrum.
• Ability to work flexibly within a large, multidisciplinary team.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a proactive, positive attitude.

Required skills

• Knowledge of PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System).
• Familiarity with Makaton signing.
