Aspiring Child Counsellor – Learning Support Assistant (SEMH)

About the role

This position offers recent graduates the chance to work directly with vulnerable secondary‑aged students who have social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will support their engagement, attainment and life chances while gaining hands‑on experience in a school setting.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and group support to students facing SEMH challenges.
• Help create a safe, inclusive environment that encourages confidence and motivation.
• Assist teachers in delivering tailored learning activities and pastoral care.
• Monitor student progress and report concerns in line with safeguarding procedures.
• Participate in on‑site training, CPD and regular supervision sessions.

Required profile

• Passionate about helping children and young people reach their potential.
• Ability to remain calm and resilient in stressful or conflict‑filled situations.
• Willingness to commute to Worthing and work term‑time only.
• GCSEs in English and Maths.
• Right to work in the UK (no visa sponsorship).

Required skills

• No specific technical skills are required; training will be provided.
