Aspiring Probation Officer – Pastoral & Learning Support Assistant

About the role

This full‑time position is based in Littlehampton’s Alternative Provision College and is designed for graduates who want to gain hands‑on experience in youth justice and restorative practice. You will work alongside teachers and specialist staff to support secondary‑aged students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide pastoral and learning support to vulnerable children, helping them engage with education.
• Build strong, consistent relationships to improve attendance, attainment and life chances.
• Collaborate with teachers, counsellors and external agencies to deliver holistic, therapeutic interventions.
• Assist in managing challenging behaviours and de‑escalating conflict situations.
• Contribute to safeguarding and wellbeing initiatives across the college.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Approachable, empathetic and able to remain calm under stress.
• Motivated, enthusiastic and professional in approach.
• Ability to commute to Littlehampton.
