Aspiring Youth Worker – Support Vulnerable Students

About the role

This position is for an Aspiring Youth Worker in an Alternative Provision College serving primary and secondary students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will work alongside teachers and specialist staff to help vulnerable children overcome trauma, build resilience and stay out of the criminal justice system.

Key responsibilities

• Provide pastoral and learning support to students with SEMH challenges.
• Identify risks and needs of children who have experienced adverse childhood experiences and escalate when necessary.
• Build strong, trusting relationships to increase student engagement, attainment and wellbeing.
• Assist in creating a safe, empowering environment where students feel secure and motivated.
• Collaborate with teaching and therapeutic staff to deliver holistic, therapeutic practice.

• Ability to remain calm and resilient in stressful or conflict situations.
• High levels of empathy, compassion and active listening.
• Motivated, enthusiastic and professional attitude.
