Assessor in Fabrication and Welding

About the role
The Assessor in Fabrication and Welding will support apprentices in achieving their qualifications, guiding them through the full apprenticeship standards and the End Point Assessment. Working closely with learners, employers and college staff, the role ensures high‑quality training and safe, inclusive learning environments.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, conduct and review inductions and initial assessments to establish realistic learning priorities.
- Develop individual learning plans in collaboration with employers, ensuring 20% off‑the‑job training is met.
- Maintain a caseload of learners, monitoring progress through regular workplace reviews and providing constructive feedback.
- Build and sustain relationships with external partners, local employers and agencies to recruit and retain learners.
- Provide guidance and advice to learners and employers to achieve agreed SMART objectives.
- Support full‑cost courses such as NVQs when required.
- Contribute to programme performance, quality improvement and recruitment targets.
- Ensure health and safety compliance, conduct employer risk assessments and promote a safe learning environment.
- Assist in curriculum development and continuous improvement of assessment processes.
Required profile
- Proven experience as an assessor in fabrication and welding or a related technical field.
- Strong knowledge of apprenticeship standards and End Point Assessment procedures.
- Ability to manage a caseload of learners and develop tailored learning plans.
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with learners, employers and internal teams.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations within a workshop or construction setting.
