Assistant Accountant (12-Month Fixed-Term Contract)

About the role

Our client, an established finance team in Glasgow, is seeking an Assistant Accountant on a 12‑month fixed‑term maternity cover. You will support day‑to‑day finance operations, gaining exposure to a broad range of accounting activities in a collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Process supplier invoices accurately and promptly.
• Raise and process customer invoices.
• Complete daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
• Prepare and update aged debtors, aged creditors and cash‑flow reports.
• Work closely with operational teams to ensure billing accuracy.
• Handle finance‑related queries from customers and suppliers.
• Assist with credit control and debtor management.
• Support month‑end processes and reconciliations.
• Maintain organised finance filing systems and provide administrative support.
• Contribute to process improvements and strengthen financial controls.

Required profile

• Previous experience as an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Assistant or similar finance role.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Confident communicator, able to work with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Desirable: AAT qualification or working towards one, credit control experience, month‑end accounting exposure, fast‑paced or project‑led environment background.
