Assistant Accountant – 12‑month Fixed‑Term Contract

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join a fast‑growing business in Birchwood for a 12‑month fixed‑term contract, with the possibility of becoming permanent. This hybrid role offers exposure to both accounting and commercial functions, allowing you to develop a broad finance skill set.

Key responsibilities

• Complete bank and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Maintain the fixed‑asset register and process depreciation.
• Reconcile company credit cards and post journals.
• Prepare accruals, pre‑payments and revenue journals.
• Support month‑end and year‑end accounting processes.
• Monitor project costs from start to finish and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Process internal recharges and cost allocations.
• Collaborate with operational teams to understand project performance and financial results.
• Assist with management accounts and provide financial analysis as required.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and support ad‑hoc finance duties.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a finance role such as Assistant Accountant, Accounts Assistant or Finance Analyst.
• Good understanding of reconciliations, journal entries and month‑end processes.
• Confident user of Excel and finance systems.
• Studying towards AAT, ACCA or CIMA is advantageous but not essential.
• Enjoys building relationships across the business.
• Proactive attitude with a genuine willingness to learn and develop.
