Assistant Accountant (Bookkeeper)

About the role

We are partnering with a well‑known accountancy practice in Farnham that values a people‑first culture. The Assistant Accountant will join a close‑knit team, handling day‑to‑day bookkeeping for a portfolio of SME clients while receiving on‑the‑job training in VAT, management accounts and more advanced accounting tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate bookkeeping records for multiple client accounts.
• Perform bank and control‑account reconciliations.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns, with guidance as required.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly management accounts.
• Review bookkeeping entries, resolve queries and support clients using Xero cloud accounting software.
• Liaise with HMRC on client matters when necessary.

Required profile

• Studying or willing to study AAT (Level 2‑4).
• Some exposure to bookkeeping and VAT processes.
• Strong attention to detail and reliable, team‑oriented attitude.
• Good communication skills and a friendly, confident manner.

Required skills

• Xero accounting software.
• Microsoft Excel.
