Assistant Accountant / Bookkeeper – Part‑time, Flexible Hours

About the role

This part‑time, office‑based position supports the finance function of a small group of UK trading and holding companies. Reporting to the Managing Directors and Financial Controller, you will handle a variety of transactional accounting tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Client invoicing, credit control, accounts payable, payment runs and supplier ledger oversight.
• Bank reconciliations, group cash management, intercompany invoicing and monthly balance reconciliations.
• Quarterly VAT returns, month‑end journals and preparation of monthly management accounts for each company.
• Balance‑sheet reconciliations, P&L analysis and support for accurate financial reporting.
• Processing staff expense claims, credit‑card transactions and managing two small UK payrolls, P11Ds and NEST pension contributions.
• Assisting with grant claim applications and other ad‑hoc finance tasks.

Required profile

• Solid experience in AP/AR ledger management, intercompany accounting, VAT returns, payroll and pensions.
• Comfortable working to deadlines and handling competing priorities.
• Ability to liaise with finance colleagues across international offices.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero (accounts and payroll).
• Advanced Excel skills.
