Assistant Accountant – Finance Team (Hybrid)

About the role

Our growing SME client is seeking an ambitious Assistant Accountant to join their friendly finance team. This hybrid position offers exposure to both transactional and management accounting, with a clear pathway towards a Finance Manager role.

Key responsibilities

• Manage accounts payable, process supplier invoices and raise sales invoices.
• Oversee accounts receivable and conduct credit control to ensure timely payments.
• Perform bank reconciliations, cash allocation and supplier statement reconciliations.
• Assist with month‑end activities, including journal and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and cash‑flow reporting.
• Maintain accurate financial records and assist with audit preparation.
• Contribute to ad‑hoc finance projects and identify process improvements.

Required profile

• Previous experience as an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant or Assistant Accountant.
• Familiarity with purchase ledger and sales ledger processes.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills.
• Keen to learn, ambitious and looking to build a long‑term finance career.
• Studying AAT or planning ACCA/CIMA studies (desirable).

• Salary £30,000‑£32,000 per year plus full study support.
• Hybrid working model – initially 4 days in office, 1 remote, moving to 3 office, 2 remote.
