Assistant Accountant – Finance Team

About the role

We are partnering with a thriving national business in Chorley that is looking for an experienced Assistant Accountant to join its finance team on a permanent, full‑time basis. The role will involve managing the cashbook, handling bank reconciliations and supporting the Finance Manager with day‑to‑day accounting tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the company cashbook and petty cash.
• Reconcile all bank accounts.
• Process and manage debtors and creditors, ensuring accurate transactions.
• Maintain the fixed‑asset register.
• Prepare pre‑payments, accruals, VAT returns and supplier reconciliations.
• Support month‑end closing and provide reports to the Finance Manager.

Required profile

• Recent experience in a similar accounting role.
• Highly organised with a self‑starter attitude.
• Ability to manage own workload and quickly learn new systems.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel (including VLOOKUP and pivot tables).
• Experience with SAP or another ERP system.
