Assistant Accountant

About the role

Nigel Wright Group is supporting a well‑established professional services firm in the North West to hire an Assistant Accountant. The position sits within a collaborative finance team, offering broad exposure to client accounts and the chance to develop technical accounting skills in a structured environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare year‑end statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
• Complete and submit VAT returns accurately and on time.
• Prepare personal tax returns (SA100) and calculate liabilities.
• Produce corporation tax computations and CT600 returns in line with HMRC requirements.
• Act as a primary point of contact for clients, gathering information and responding to queries.
• Support audit assignments, including fieldwork and assistance to senior team members.
• Maintain up‑to‑date bookkeeping records using cloud‑based accounting systems.
• Identify tax and accounting planning opportunities and raise them with senior colleagues.
• Provide guidance and support to junior team members, fostering a positive team culture.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a finance or accounting role.
• AAT qualification (or actively studying towards AAT/ACCA/CIMA).
• Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
• Good working knowledge of Excel and accounting systems.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach.
