Assistant Accountant

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join a well‑established business in Calne on a 6‑month fixed‑term contract. The role is office‑based and offers the chance to work across finance, payroll, import‑export and HR administration.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing monthly management accounts, profit & loss statements and other financial reports.
• Process journal entries, accruals, pre‑payments and perform account reconciliations.
• Handle month‑end and year‑end reporting, bank reconciliations and payment file uploads.
• Manage debtor accounts, credit control and logistics‑related cost tracking.
• Process monthly payroll data, verify expense claims and maintain payroll records.
• Support import and export documentation, customs paperwork and related cost administration.
• Produce daily sales and performance reports, analyse margins and assist with ad‑hoc reporting.
• Provide general HR and office administration support, including onboarding and employee record keeping.

Required profile

• Qualified accounting professional with several years of relevant experience.
• Immediately available or able to start on short notice.
• Comfortable working on a variety of accounting and administrative tasks.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet tight month‑end deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SAP or Sage accounting systems.
• Experience processing payroll and expense claims.
• Good knowledge of bank reconciliation and journal entry processing.
