Assistant Accountant

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join a long‑established Cumbrian business. Working closely with the Financial Controller, you will become part of a friendly finance team of five and support the day‑to‑day operations of the department.

Key responsibilities

• Process purchase, sales and general ledger transactions.
• Perform bank and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Post journals, accruals and pre‑payments.
• Support month‑end closing activities.
• Maintain accounting records and operational spreadsheets.
• Investigate supplier queries and liaise with internal departments.
• Assist with financial reporting and uphold robust financial controls.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in a finance or accounts role.
• AAT qualification (desirable).
• Proactive approach with the ability to manage a varied workload.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of Sage 200 or a similar accounting package.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with high attention to detail.
