Assistant Accountant

About the role

We are partnering with a growing organisation in North Tyneside to hire an Assistant Accountant on a six‑month contract. The successful candidate will support the Finance Manager with day‑to‑day accounting tasks and contribute to finance transformation initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Process and post invoices, receipts and payments accurately.
• Post bank transactions, reconcile statements and monitor cash balances.
• Perform supplier statement reconciliations and record receipts and expenses.
• Administer company credit cards and support the implementation of new purchase order and expense systems.
• Assist in finance transformation projects, evaluating processes for efficiency and tightening financial policies and controls.
• Provide ad‑hoc reporting and support other finance projects as required.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a similar accounting role.
• Strong understanding of basic accounting principles.
• Attention to detail and ability to work accurately under deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xero accounting software.
• Advanced Excel skills.
