Assistant Accountant – Motor Trade

About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a successful and growing automotive retail group as an Assistant Accountant. Working closely with the Multi‑Site Dealership Accountant, you will support the finance function across several dealership locations and help drive commercial performance.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts for multiple dealership sites.
• Prepare and post journals, including accruals and pre‑payments.
• Complete balance‑sheet reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Support month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting across the dealer network.
• Analyse financial performance and produce reports with commentary.
• Provide financial insight to operational managers to aid commercial decision‑making.
• Build strong relationships with General Managers, Sales Managers, Aftersales Managers and other departmental leaders.
• Identify trends and opportunities to improve profitability.
• Support continuous improvement of reporting, controls and processes.

Required profile

• Previous experience as an Assistant Accountant or similar finance role within a franchised motor‑trade environment.
• Experience preparing journals, accruals, pre‑payments and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Exposure to management accounts, budgeting and forecasting.
• Strong working knowledge of Kerridge, CDK Drive or Pinnacle dealer management systems.
• Excellent Microsoft Excel skills and strong analytical ability.
