Assistant Category Buyer

About the role

The Assistant Category Buyer will support the buying team by managing a portfolio of lower‑complexity product categories. Working closely with senior buyers, sales teams and suppliers, you will help drive commercial performance and deliver excellent customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of assigned product categories.
• Monitor category performance and identify opportunities to improve sales and profitability.
• Prepare customer quotations and pricing proposals.
• Act as the first point of contact for day‑to‑day sales and product enquiries.
• Support sales teams with product recommendations and alternatives.
• Maintain accurate product, pricing and category data.
• Monitor supplier pricing and market trends.
• Assist senior buyers with supplier negotiations, range reviews and business projects.
• Support new product introductions and launches.
• Liaise with international suppliers, including the China office, regarding product information and pricing.
• Gather competitor and market intelligence to support commercial decisions.

Required profile

• Previous experience in buying, procurement, commercial support, sales support or purchasing.
• Strong administrative and organisational abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and numerical capability.
• Effective communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Experience within wholesale, distribution or manufacturing environments is advantageous.
