Assistant Cook – Term-Time Position

About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Cook to join our team at Letchmore Infants School. Working 22.5 hours per week during school terms, you will support the Cook Manager in delivering nutritious, safe meals for children while enjoying a schedule free of weekends and late nights.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve balanced meals that meet student and client expectations.
• Assist the Cook Manager with daily kitchen tasks and meal preparation.
• Manage stock control, inventory and ordering using the school’s IT systems.
• Maintain accurate allergen records and cater for special dietary requirements.
• Follow all food safety, hygiene and health‑and‑safety regulations.
• Represent the HCL brand professionally within the school environment.

Required profile

• Commitment to safeguarding children and young people.
• Previous experience in education catering or a similar setting.
• Food Hygiene Level 2 certification (mandatory).
• Strong knowledge of health‑and‑safety requirements in a school.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

Required skills

• Food Hygiene Level 2 certification.
• Proficiency with IT ordering and inventory management systems.
• Allergen record‑keeping and special‑diet handling.
