Assistant Director – Adult Social Care (Senior Leadership)

About the role

Waltham Forest is seeking an experienced senior leader to join its Adult Social Care team as Assistant Director – Home First and Provider Services. This strategic role oversees a portfolio of high‑impact services, ensuring residents receive safe, independent, and dignified care while meeting statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and operational leadership for Hospital Discharge, Reablement, Occupational Therapy, Home Adaptations and Provider Services.
• Manage a workforce of approximately 260 staff across residential homes, shared‑lives schemes, and the Dementia Hub.
• Lead the council’s transformation programme, driving improvement and innovation across service delivery.
• Develop and maintain strong partnerships with NHS partners, external providers and key stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with CQC regulations, council policies and legislative frameworks.
• Shape borough‑wide adult social care strategy and influence service development.

Required profile

• Significant senior leadership experience in adult social care or related public sector services.
• Proven ability to manage large, complex service portfolios and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of NHS integration, CQC standards and statutory obligations.
• Demonstrated track record of leading transformation and improvement programmes.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
