Assistant Estimator / Quantity Surveyor

About the role

This permanent position offers a hands‑on opportunity to join a well‑established civil engineering and construction contractor operating across Essex, London and the South East. Working alongside experienced estimators and quantity surveyors, you will be involved in the full commercial lifecycle of infrastructure and construction projects.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with quantity take‑offs and preparation of cost estimates.
• Support the preparation and submission of competitive tender packages.
• Review drawings, specifications and project information to identify cost implications.
• Obtain and analyse pricing from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Monitor project costs and aid budget control throughout the project lifecycle.
• Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation.

Required profile

• Recent graduate, trainee or early‑career professional eager to develop in construction costing.
• Knowledge of quantity surveying, estimating or construction cost principles.
• Understanding of construction methods, materials and infrastructure projects.
• Strong numerical, analytical and attention‑to‑detail abilities.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with estimating software (beneficial but not essential).
