Assistant Forensic Psychologist

About the role

The Assistant Forensic Psychologist works in a prisoner‑facing capacity within the Psychology Services Group, delivering a range of tasks to support psychology service delivery. This includes direct assessment and intervention with prisoners, supporting staff, and handling data management and case support activities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and summarise file information for assessment and consultancy purposes.
• Gather and analyse data for research, consultancy and needs analyses.
• Support delivery of validated programmes and associated assessments.
• Facilitate focus groups and conduct cognitive assessments under supervision.
• Assist psychology staff with client assessments and contribute to literature reviews.
• Help formulate and deliver care plans for prisoners and develop psychologically based frameworks.
• Participate in audit project design and implementation.

Required profile

• Psychology degree conferring Graduate Basis of Registration with the British Psychological Society.
• Minimum 2:2 degree classification.
• Completion of relevant CPD, including an MSc in Forensic Psychology if not already held.
• Willingness to undertake specific training in the specialist area upon appointment.
• Demonstrated behaviours in communicating, influencing, decision‑making, developing self and others, delivering at pace and working together.
