Assistant Headteacher – Special Educational Needs School

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Headteacher to join a Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in Reading from January 2027. The school supports pupils aged 7‑16 with social, emotional and mental health needs and aims to deliver outstanding, personalised outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Model high‑quality teaching and learning while inspiring staff.
• Drive whole‑school improvement and lead strategic initiatives.
• Develop and mentor staff, fostering professional growth.
• Design curriculum, oversee assessment systems and monitor pupil progress.
• Build secure, trusting relationships with pupils, families and external partners.
• Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary teams to ensure safeguarding excellence.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• Proven ability to deliver excellent teaching and lead improvement.
• Strong leadership, emotional intelligence and resilience.
• Commitment to inclusion, wellbeing and personal development.
• Reflective, solution‑focused approach with high professional integrity.
