Assistant Manager (Accountancy Practice)

About the role

We are supporting a fast‑growing accountancy practice in Guildford that provides outsourcing and advisory services to SMEs and owner‑managed businesses. The Assistant Manager will work closely with senior leadership, managing a diverse client portfolio while developing their own expertise across management accounts, tax, bookkeeping and advisory work.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Director with client portfolio and act as primary contact for client queries.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, delivering practical advice.
• Prepare and review management accounts for SMEs, sole traders and other entities.
• Oversee bookkeeping and outsourcing functions.
• Prepare and review tax and VAT returns.
• Liaise with internal teams across multiple service lines.
• Support staff development by reviewing junior work and providing feedback.
• Collect, organise and analyse data for internal reporting and client insights.
• Contribute to business development and identify growth opportunities.
• Gain exposure to FP&A, financial reporting, expense tracking and analysis.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification (or equivalent).
• Strong experience preparing management accounts within an accountancy practice.
• Proven ability to review and supervise junior staff work.
• Confidence in managing client relationships independently.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.
• Proactive, solution‑focused mindset.
