Assistant Professor – Biotechnology (University Position)

About the role
The Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge is seeking an Assistant Professor to start in October 2026 (or shortly thereafter). The successful candidate will lead an internationally recognised research group and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and lead a research programme aligned with the department’s strategic themes of sustainability and healthcare.
- Secure external grant funding and publish high‑impact research in leading journals.
- Teach and examine across the Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology Tripos, covering a broad range of biotechnology topics.
- Supervise and mentor graduate students and post‑doctoral researchers.
- Contribute to departmental service, industry partnerships and knowledge‑transfer activities.
Required profile
- Outstanding record of original research demonstrated by publications in top international journals.
- Proven ability to obtain external research funding.
- Commitment to high‑quality teaching and willingness to teach beyond one’s immediate research area.
- Alignment with the department’s focus on sustainability and healthcare challenges.
