Assistant Project Accountant

About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Project Accountant to support financial control and project accounting across a diverse portfolio of contracts and service delivery streams. The role offers hands‑on experience in revenue recognition, contract accounting, month‑end close and project reporting within a dynamic, project‑led environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly revenue recognition calculations and contract accounting schedules, including work‑in‑progress, accrued and deferred revenue.
• Support project accounting by recording costs, margins and contract positions accurately.
• Produce month‑end journals, accruals, reconciliations and balance‑sheet reviews for project‑related accounts.
• Maintain project financial data, allocate transactions correctly and ensure accurate records.
• Generate project P&L and balance‑sheet reports and provide supporting analysis.
• Monitor timesheet completion and assist with utilisation and time‑recovery reporting.
• Raise customer invoices, process credit notes and help resolve queries with Credit Control.
• Assist with project setup and closure, ensuring financial structures and controls are in place.
• Support audit activities and preparation of year‑end documentation.
• Identify and implement improvements to processes, controls and reporting efficiency.

Required profile

• Part‑qualified or fully qualified ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent, or qualified by experience.
• Strong understanding of double‑entry bookkeeping, accruals accounting and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Experience in project‑based, contract, engineering, construction, manufacturing or professional services environments.
• Knowledge of revenue recognition and contract accounting principles.
• Ability to handle large volumes of financial data and meet tight month‑end deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with finance and non‑finance stakeholders.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel.
• Experience with ERP systems.
