Assistant Quantity Surveyor

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a fast‑growing main contractor in St Albans. The role offers hands‑on experience across refurbishment, maintenance and public sector projects, supporting the commercial team from day one.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the procurement of subcontractors and materials for multiple projects.
• Support the preparation of valuations, variations and cost reports.
• Help manage project budgets and improve profitability.
• Liaise with site teams, senior Quantity Surveyors and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to contract administration and commercial processes.
• Visit construction sites across the South East as required.

Required profile

• Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Trainee QS.
• Exposure to refurbishment, maintenance or main‑contracting projects is preferred.
• Strong work ethic, ambition and willingness to learn.
• Good communication and organisational abilities.
• Basic commercial awareness and understanding of construction processes.
