Assistant Restaurant Manager – 5* Castle Hotel

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Restaurant Manager to join our award‑winning Food & Beverage team at Thornbury Castle Hotel. Working in a beautifully restored Tudor castle, you will help deliver memorable 5‑star experiences for guests across breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner and private functions.

Key responsibilities

• Support the F&B Operations Manager in daily operations, including service for up to 80 guests.
• Take charge of the department in the manager’s absence, ensuring standards meet Relais & Châteaux and AA Rosette expectations.
• Oversee health, safety and food‑safety procedures and maintain compliance.
• Handle guest queries, dietary requirements and complaints with professionalism.
• Assist with rota planning, recruitment, staff training and performance management.
• Monitor financial and HR procedures, contributing to cost control and service‑charge distribution.

Required profile

• Eligible to work in the UK without visa sponsorship.
• Previous experience in a Relais & Châteaux property or AA Rosette‑awarded restaurant.
• Polished personal presentation and strong communication skills.
• Calm, composed under pressure with a proactive, team‑oriented attitude.
• Passion for delivering exceptional hospitality.

Required skills

• Knowledge of classic cocktails, wines and spirits.
• Understanding of food‑allergy protocols and guest dietary needs.
• Familiarity with health, safety and food‑safety standards.

What we offer

• Full‑time permanent role – 40 hours per week, mainly evenings and weekends.
• Salary £30,000 per year plus a share of service charge and tips (approximately £2‑3 k annually).
