Assistant SENCO (Higher Level Teaching Assistant)

About the role

We are looking for an organised, passionate Assistant SENCO to support students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) at Harris Academy Greenwich. This fixed‑term maternity cover role will see you working closely with the SENCO and a dedicated SEND team to create an inclusive learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support the SENCO in managing and coordinating day‑to‑day SEND provision across the school.
• Lead small‑group interventions and implement support strategies for pupils with additional learning needs.
• Assist in the preparation, review and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
• Monitor, track and report on the progress of students receiving SEND support.
• Liaise regularly with teachers, parents and external specialists to ensure a collaborative approach.
• Act as a senior point of contact within the classroom support team, modelling best practices for teaching assistants.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, Assistant SENCO or in a senior SEND support role in a secondary school.
• Up‑to‑date knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, EHCP processes and intervention planning.
• Excellent communication, organisational and administrative abilities.
• Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
• Full right to work in the UK (no sponsorship).
