Assistant Service Manager

About the role

The Assistant Service Manager will work closely with the Service Manager to ensure the smooth operation of a busy automotive service department. This role is ideal for a senior service advisor, workshop controller or current assistant manager looking to progress within a dealership environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Service Manager in daily running of the service department.
• Lead, motivate and develop Service Advisors and support staff, including briefings, coaching and performance reviews.
• Manage staff absence, holiday planning and departmental cover.
• Ensure outstanding customer service throughout the journey and resolve complex concerns.
• Monitor and improve Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) performance.
• Oversee workshop loading, technician utilisation and work‑in‑progress to maximise efficiency.
• Collaborate with Workshop Controllers and Parts teams to minimise delays.
• Drive labour sales, service plan penetration and after‑sales profitability.
• Track daily, weekly and monthly KPIs and support budget achievement.
• Maintain compliance with manufacturer requirements, health & safety standards and warranty procedures.

Required profile

• Previous automotive aftersales experience.
• Leadership or supervisory experience within a service department.
• Strong understanding of workshop operations and customer service processes.
• Excellent communication and people‑management skills.
• Commercial awareness with a focus on profitability.
• Full UK driving licence.

Required skills

• Experience with Keyloop, Kerridge, Drive or similar DMS systems.
