Assistant Site Manager – Highway & Infrastructure

About the role

We are looking for a permanent Assistant Site Manager to join our Bridges/Structures delivery team on the Network Management Contract Southwest (NMC SW) based in Polmadie, Glasgow. Working closely with the Delivery Manager, you will help ensure safe, efficient and compliant delivery of highway and infrastructure works across more than 600 km of road and 1,650 structures.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Delivery Manager in day‑to‑day delivery of highway and infrastructure projects.
• Carry out Principal Contractor duties in line with CDM Regulations.
• Plan and deliver works complying with health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Prepare and review Construction Phase Plans, Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
• Conduct site inspections, safety visits and audits, ensuring corrective actions are completed.
• Coordinate subcontractors and supply‑chain partners, monitor programme, resources and costs.
• Liaise with clients, local authorities, stakeholders and the public.
• Maintain accurate site records, diaries, permits and compliance documentation.
• Deliver toolbox talks, briefings and workforce engagement sessions.
• Report and investigate incidents and near‑misses, working with HSEQ advisors on improvement actions.

Required profile

• Current experience in a similar site‑management or assistant site‑manager role.
• Background in civil engineering, construction or term‑maintenance highways contracts.
• Ability to work Monday‑Friday, 08:00‑16:45, with occasional overtime, weekend or night‑shift supervision.

Required skills

• Knowledge of CDM Regulations.
• Understanding of health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Experience preparing Construction Phase Plans, Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
• Site inspection and audit competence.
• Sub‑contractor coordination and supply‑chain management.
• Programme monitoring and cost control.
