Assistant Store Manager – 12 month Fixed Term

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Store Manager for our busy Lakeside store in West Thurrock. This 12‑month fixed‑term role supports the Store Manager in delivering excellent customer service and driving sales in a high‑volume optical retail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Store Manager in leading, coaching and developing a large team of colleagues.
• Conduct regular one‑to‑one meetings, coaching sessions and training.
• Drive sales performance through effective KPI monitoring and action.
• Support recruitment, performance management and colleague engagement initiatives.
• Ensure exceptional customer experiences on the shop floor.
• Maintain operational excellence, compliance and health‑and‑safety standards.
• Take charge of store operations in the Store Manager’s absence.

Required profile

• Previous management or supervisory experience in a retail setting.
• Strong people leadership and coaching abilities.
• Experience managing performance and developing teams.
• Good understanding of HR processes.
• Commercial awareness with confidence using KPIs to improve results.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.
• Full flexibility to work weekends and late‑night trading.
