Assistant Tax Manager

About the role

Join Howdens as an Assistant Tax Manager in Central London and take ownership of key corporate tax responsibilities within a leading FTSE 100 organisation. Reporting directly to the Head of Tax, you will develop your expertise while supporting a complex, multi‑entity business.

Key responsibilities

• Lead preparation of the group’s consolidated corporation tax returns (full year and half year), including capital allowances, patent box, transfer pricing adjustments and share‑based payments.
• Prepare UK corporation tax computations for all UK entities in collaboration with internal finance teams and external compliance providers.
• Analyse capital allowances and work with finance to improve related processes.
• Calculate transfer pricing adjustments and ensure compliance with OECD principles.
• Partner with finance to forecast corporation tax charges, cash tax and effective tax rate, and submit UK and overseas VAT returns.
• Prepare consolidated and entity‑level financial statement tax disclosures.
• Liaise with auditors to explain tax positions and support judgments.
• Maintain the tax compliance calendar, ensuring timely returns and payments.
• Assist with PSA, plastic tax, and P11D reporting in collaboration with finance, HR and payroll.

Required profile

• ACA, ACCA or CTA qualified (or equivalent) with strong UK corporate tax experience.
• Proven experience in an Assistant Tax Manager or similar in‑house role within a large or multi‑site organisation.
• Deep knowledge of UK tax legislation, including VAT compliance.
• Ability to translate complex tax matters into clear commercial advice.
• Strong stakeholder management and attention to detail.
