Assistant Teacher – Primary Teaching Assistant

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Teacher to support a vibrant primary school in East Leeds. The role involves working closely with the class teacher to deliver daily lessons and provide targeted support for pupils, especially in reading, phonics and writing.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the class teacher in delivering lesson activities and maintaining classroom focus.
• Lead small‑group reading, phonics and writing interventions tailored to varying abilities.
• Provide one‑to‑one support for pupils with emotional, behavioural or SEND needs.
• Organise and prepare classroom resources, equipment and displays.
• Supervise pupils during drop‑off, lunch and outdoor play to ensure safety.
• Record and communicate pupil progress and behavioural observations to the lead teacher.

Required profile

• Practical experience working with young children in a school, nursery, coaching or volunteering setting.
• Strong communication skills with confident spoken and written English and Maths.
• Patient, warm and proactive attitude with a willingness to learn on the job.
• Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain) and registration on the Update Service.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a fast‑moving, multidisciplinary school team.
