Assistant Team Manager – Care Leaver Service

About the role

The Assistant Team Manager will support the Care Leaver Service of Oxfordshire County Council, providing day‑to‑day operational leadership and supervision within the social care team. Working closely with the Team Manager, the role ensures high‑quality assessments, timely interventions and strong multi‑agency collaboration for children, young people and families.

Key responsibilities

• Allocate and progress new referrals through the duty system, ensuring timely case handling.
• Assist the Team Manager with performance management, statutory duties and target achievement.
• Lead improvements in assessment and care planning, delivering workshops and practice updates.
• Conduct case supervision in the Team Manager’s absence.
• Support induction and ongoing development of new staff.
• Convene and chair professional and statutory meetings.
• Promote effective multi‑agency working with partner organisations.
• Maintain high standards of safeguarding and child‑centred practice.
• Undertake quality assurance audits and contribute to the Service’s QA framework.

Required profile

• Experience in social care or child protection environments.
• Understanding of statutory responsibilities and safeguarding standards.
• Ability to lead teams, supervise casework and drive performance improvement.
• Strong communication and multi‑agency collaboration skills.
• Capability to organise meetings, audits and training sessions.
