Assistant Transport Manager

About the role

The Assistant Transport Manager provides operational support to the Transport Manager, ensuring seamless transport operations and compliance with legal and company standards. Working 8am‑4pm, Monday‑Friday on‑site, the role is pivotal in maintaining fleet reliability and driver satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor all planned maintenance inspections, brake tests and scheduled servicing, producing weekly maintenance schedules for drivers and workshop teams.
• Manage daily vehicle defect reports, ensuring timely repair, documentation and closure of defects.
• Schedule and prepare vehicles for MOT inspections and statutory testing, liaising with dealerships to maximise first‑time pass rates.
• Conduct regular fleet inspections, wheel torque checks and compliance spot checks, supporting transport audits and licence obligations.
• Act as the primary point of contact for drivers on fleet, maintenance and compliance matters, providing clear communication and support.

Required profile

• Experience in transport, fleet or vehicle maintenance environments.
• Strong organisational ability to plan maintenance and manage defect workflows.
• Excellent communication skills for liaising with drivers, workshops and external service providers.
• Attention to detail to ensure compliance with MOT, roadworthiness and licence requirements.
