Associate Engineer – Construction Design (Birmingham)

About the role

We are seeking an Associate Engineer to join Kier’s Design team in Birmingham. In this senior‑level position you will lead the delivery of complex construction engineering services, focusing on temporary works that integrate with permanent structures.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of complex temporary works, both above and below ground, using a range of materials.
• Act as Project Lead, managing technical scope, programme, budget and client relationships for bids and live projects.
• Provide technical assurance through design reviews, third‑party assessments and resolution of engineering issues.
• Support bid and tender activity with outline designs, feasibility studies, value engineering and buildability solutions.
• Mentor and develop engineers, share best practice and contribute to technical standards and training.

Required profile

• Chartered Engineer (CEng, MICE) or member of a relevant professional institution with significant post‑qualification experience.
• Strong background in temporary works design and checking across diverse construction environments.
• Proven experience leading complex projects and multidisciplinary teams in a consultancy or contractor‑led setting.
• Commercial awareness with experience in bids, fees, programme and budget management.
