Associate Town Planner

About the role

Penguin Recruitment is supporting a respected multidisciplinary consultancy in Kent to hire an Associate Town Planner. This role offers the chance to lead medium‑sized planning projects, work closely with senior directors on larger schemes, and develop strong client relationships within a collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead medium‑sized planning projects from brief to completion.
• Support Directors on larger, more complex developments.
• Attend client meetings and act as primary contact throughout project lifecycles.
• Liaise with external consultants and multidisciplinary teams to ensure effective delivery.
• Prepare and review planning applications, appeals and supporting documentation.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with local planning authorities and key stakeholders.
• Provide guidance to junior team members where required.
• Contribute to the growth and development of the planning function.

Required profile

• Strong, well‑rounded understanding of the UK planning system and local government processes.
• Minimum five years’ experience in planning, either in consultancy or the public sector.
• MRTPI chartered status.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organisational and project‑management abilities, capable of handling multiple priorities.
• Full UK driving licence.
