Attendance Officer – Secondary School (Brent)

About the role
This full‑time Attendance Officer role supports a secondary school in Brent, helping students attend regularly and overcome barriers to learning. Working within the pastoral team, you will build relationships with pupils, families and staff to promote punctuality and engagement.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor daily attendance and punctuality across the school.
- Follow up unexplained absences and keep accurate records.
- Identify trends, persistent absence and students needing extra support.
- Contact parents/carers about attendance concerns and collaborate on improvement plans.
- Work with pastoral staff, safeguarding teams and external agencies as required.
- Support attendance meetings, intervention plans and reintegration programmes.
- Produce attendance reports and share updates with relevant staff.
- Maintain records using MIS systems such as SIMS, Arbor or Bromcom.
Required profile
- Experience working with children or young people in a secondary school setting.
- Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with students, parents and staff.
- Passion for supporting pupil wellbeing and improving educational outcomes.
- Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and GDPR requirements.
Required skills
- Proficiency with school MIS systems (SIMS, Arbor, Bromcom).
