Audio Typist – Acute Services (Glasgow Royal Infirmary)

About the role

The Audio Typist will provide accurate and timely transcription of clinical dictation for acute services at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Working closely with clinicians and multidisciplinary teams, you will help ensure patient records are complete and up‑to‑date, supporting high‑quality patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Transcribe clinical dictation from outpatient clinics, inpatient discharges and medical reports.
• Input and maintain accurate patient data on clinical systems.
• Prepare, manage and file clinic letters and correspondence.
• Liaise with clinical staff, GPs and colleagues to resolve queries and obtain accurate information.
• Track and manage patient case records across departments.
• Prioritise workload to meet strict turnaround times and quality standards.
• Support general administrative duties such as document handling and results processing.

Required profile

• Secretarial Studies qualification or equivalent experience with advanced keyboard skills.
• Proven audio typing ability with high speed and accuracy.
• Strong understanding of medical terminology and excellent English language skills.
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Outlook.
• Familiarity with clinical systems such as TrakCare or similar (desirable).
• Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
