Audit Manager (External Audit)

About the role

McGinnis Loy Associates is working with an entrepreneurial accountancy practice in Central London to appoint an Audit Manager. The role is split 70% commercial audit and 30% accounts, requiring management of qualified audit staff, liaison with partners and review of audits for corporate PLCs and private equity‑backed businesses.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of audit and account clients with turnovers up to £100 million, including multi‑national AIM‑listed groups and PE‑backed enterprises.
• Assist partners in planning and executing complex UK and international audit engagements, leading open and close meetings with clients.
• Develop new business by managing existing clients and targeting new audit opportunities within the London region.
• Review internal audit working practices, identify efficiency improvements and support compliance procedures such as quality control and anti‑money‑laundering reviews.
• Supervise qualified audit staff on major client sites, ensuring audit work meets objectives and deadlines.

Required profile

• Qualified ACA, ICAS or ACCA accountant with at least five years’ experience running audit portfolios, preferably from a Top 100 or well‑regarded regional firm.
• Proven experience managing audits across commercial sectors, including OMBs, PE‑backed, listed and international groups.
• Strong knowledge of UK GAAP and FRS 102, with the ambition to progress towards partnership and obtain RI status.
