Audit Manager

About the role

Reed is seeking an experienced Audit Manager to join its well‑established accountancy practice in Chester. You will lead audit engagements from planning through to completion, manage a diverse client portfolio and develop junior team members.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of audit clients across various sectors, including owner‑managed businesses and SMEs.
• Plan, lead and review audit engagements, ensuring delivery within agreed deadlines and budgets.
• Act as the primary contact for audit clients, building and maintaining strong relationships.
• Review audit files for compliance with auditing standards and internal procedures.
• Identify audit and accounting issues and propose practical, commercial solutions.
• Supervise, mentor and train audit seniors and junior staff, including performance reviews.
• Liaise with partners on client matters, workflow and resourcing requirements.
• Assist with proposals, fee negotiations and business development where appropriate.

Required profile

• ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent).
• Previous experience in an audit role within an accountancy practice.
• Proven experience managing audit assignments and leading teams.
• Strong technical knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and client priorities.
• Desirable: experience with SME and owner‑managed businesses, staff development and mentoring.
