Audit Semi-Senior

About the role

We are seeking a part‑qualified audit professional to join a top‑80 accounting firm’s audit team in Reading. You will work on a variety of SME audit assignments across multiple sectors, balancing audit and accounting responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Execute audit assignments from planning through fieldwork, preparing basic audit files and leading junior staff.
• Ensure audits are completed to high standards, on time and within agreed budgets.
• Supervise and review work performed by junior/graduate team members.
• Prepare basic monthly and quarterly management accounts for sole traders, limited companies and partnerships.
• Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts under client manager supervision.
• Complete working papers, including bank reconciliations, other reconciliations and control accounts.
• Maintain up‑to‑date technical knowledge of audit standards and industry issues.
• Contribute to new audit service development and client quoting.

Required profile

• Part‑qualified AAT, ACA or ACCA accountant.
• Minimum 2 years of external audit experience with SME/OMB corporate clients, preferably in a top‑100 or established regional firm.
• Proven ability to work on multiple audit clients, build client relationships and meet strict audit deadlines.
• Ability to balance audit (≈80%) and accounts (≈20%) work.

• Proficiency with accounting software.
